All India Institute of Medical Sciences Overview

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani got the green light under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) from the Union Cabinet on October 7, 2015. Spread across 179.82 acres near Kalyani, West Bengal, it aims to fix healthcare imbalances and improve medical education. AIIMS Kalyani is crucial because it addresses issues in specific regions, medical specialties, and the balance between doctors and other healthcare professionals. It's meant to set a high standard for medical education in India. In the first phase, AIIMS Kalyani plans to be a 960-bed hospital with modern facilities, giving importance to alternative medicine (AYUSH). Later, it will grow to include more specialized departments. Dr. Chitra Sarkar from AIIMS New Delhi was chosen as the first President of AIIMS Kalyani in 2018. The institute started teaching its first batch of 50 MBBS students in September 2019. In May 2020, Prof. (Dr.) Ramji Singh became the first Executive Director, contributing to the growth and leadership of AIIMS Kalyani.
