Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) is a vibrant institution of higher education situated in the rural landscapes of southern Tamil Nadu, boasting a sprawling 550-acre campus. Established on September 7, 1990, by the Government of Tamil Nadu, MSU functions as a teaching-cum-affiliating University. It was created to address the educational needs of the residents in the four southernmost districts of Tamil Nadu, namely Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari.

 The university is named in honor of the renowned Tamil poet and scholar, Professor P. Sundaram Pillai (1855-1897), celebrated for his verse drama "Manonmaniam." His poem has transcended to become the "Tamil Thaai Vazhthu," the official invocation song sung in all events across Tamil Nadu.

The university offers a diverse range of postgraduate, integrated PG, PG Diploma, and Certificate Courses through its 26 teaching departments. The institution boasts a robust network comprising over 102 affiliated colleges, 6 MSU Colleges, and 4 Constituent Colleges.  As part of the UG program, students can pursue courses such as B.A. in Tamil, English, History, Economics, Criminology & Police Administration, B.Com, B.B.A, B.Litt. in Tamil, B.C.A, and B.L.I.Sc. The PG program includes M.A. in Tamil, English, History, Economics, Criminology & Police Science, Sociology, Mass Communication & Journalism, M.Com, M.B.A. with specializations in General, Marketing, Production, Finance, Human Resources, and System, M.C.A, and M.L.I.Sc. Library: The university's library, established in 1990, has undergone digital transformation to align with contemporary trends in e-content. Utilizing the Remote Access method with a secure password, students can access a vast collection of 1,14,995 books. The library is a valuable academic resource, enabling students to explore e-resources from any location.

 

Hostel: MS University offers residential facilities for female students within the hostel premises. Each room accommodates four students and provides basic amenities at a reasonable cost. The annual fee structure includes an application fee of Rs.100/-, establishment fee of Rs.1900/- per semester, room rent of Rs.1000/- per semester, and a caution deposit of Rs.3000/- (refundable at the end of the academic year). The monthly mess fee is calculated at Rs.75/day, and the electricity bill is shared among residents. During seminars, conferences, workshops, etc., a guest rate of Rs.200/- is applicable. Rebates are offered based on a N-2 basis, where N represents the number of days a student is absent.
