National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Ernakulam

National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) is located in Kochi, Ernakulam district, India. It is public law school affiliated with the National Law University. The Kerala State Legislature passed Act 27 in 2005 to establish it. It was previously known as the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS). According to India Today's rankings, it is placed 11th in all of India for legal study.

University' curriculum includes BA LLB, LLM, PG Diploma, Ph.D., and certificate programs. University entry to all these courses is based on the Common Law entry Test (CLAT).

Courses at University

The University provides 4 different courses with varying concentrations. Candidates who wish to practice law in India must pass the CLAT test with the required scores for admission to this institute. The course details are stated below:

Admission 2025 at University

The University provides comprehensive spectrum of UG and PG legal education. The university offers the following courses: BA LLB, LLM, PG Diploma, and Ph.D.

Entrance exam is basis for students admission. The UG and PG courses will be selected based on CLAT (centralized law test) scores. Kerala students receive 49% reservation in all categories.

Application Procedure

CLAT will be used for admission to LLM and BA-LLB (Hons) programmes. The application procedure for CLAT is described here:

  • Pay the application fees online using net banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI.

Application Process for PG Diploma Courses:

  • Download the application form as pdf from the university's website.
  • Submit the application form and upload all documents requested there.
  • Eligible candidates will be selected based on the qualifying exam (Bachelor's Degree) cut-off.

Application Procedure for Ph.D.:

  • Candidates must download the application form in PDF format from the university's website.
  • Submit the application form to the university together with the funds that are required.
  • Candidates conducting research in recognized institutions can submit their application through the Head of the Institution to the Registrar of the University.

Note: Students with at least 50% in DAT will be eligible for admission.

Result of University

The University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) in Kochi conducts the test for academic year students twice a year, in April/May/June and October/November/December. The official website has the results available online. Students can check their results in some simple steps. Follow the actions outlined below and examine the results.

Step 2: On the website's front page, click on the Results link under Academics.

Step 3 - Select the Result link you want to check.

Step 4: The complete list of results will be displayed on the screen.

According to the university NIRF report for 2024, the median package offered for BA LLB Hons placements 2020 was INR 8.23 LPA. Furthermore, the median package offered for PG 1-year 2020 was INR 9 LPA for university postings. The placement rates for BA LLB Hons and PG 1-year placements 2020 were 46% and 30%, respectively.

Scholarships for Students

University offers government-sponsored scholarships to students from backward communities like as SC and ST based on their merit and financial need. Furthermore, there is an NK Nambiar grant for students from low-income families. Aside from that, IDIA offers scholarships. IDIA is non-profit, non-governmental organization that operates for the benefit of the student community. Eligible students can apply for these scholarships on the institute's official website.

University of Advanced Legal Studies has good campus infrastructure apart from that it has a very wonderful faculty to teach there.

LibraryThe NUALS library has a collection of over 13,944 volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects. There are various kinds of books consisting of textbooks, reference books, back volumes of journals, reports, etc. The library subscribes to several leading law journals, both Indian and foreign and also a number of newspapers and magazines. It is big and very beautifully made.
