Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication is a UGC-recognized institute established in 1990. It is located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, and was named after Pandit Makhanlal Chaturvedi, a prominent editor, poet, literateur, and freedom fighter during his time. The university has 2 campuses in Bhopal and 3 more in Datia, Khandwa, and Rewa. It is the first academic center of excellence in the entire Asian subcontinent.

It is also known as University and provides UG, PG, and skill-oriented diploma programs in Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Electronic Media, New Media, Cinema Studies, Computer Applications, Media Business Management, Library and Information Sciences, and Communication Research. At UG level, it provides BA, B.Sc., B.Tech, BCA, BBA, B.Com, and BLIS programmes. At PG level, it provides MA, M.Sc., MBA, MCA, and MLIS. Furthermore, the institute provides Diploma, PG Diploma, and Ph.D. programs in many specializations. Admission 2024

  • Admission to this university is based only on merit and an online interview. However, several conditions must be satisfied to apply for admission
  • For any UG study, the candidate must have the intermediate exam (10+2) or any other similar examination.
  • For any PG study, the candidate must have the graduation examination (the final test of the 3rd year) in the relevant discipline.

Steps to Apply:

  • Only Admission applications are accepted online, and they are only legitimate if the prescribed payments are received.
  • To apply online, candidates must visit the University website .
  • A candidate may apply to any programs. However, he/she must fill out various documents and pay the applicable fees for each.
  • The online application fees for admission is Rs. 500/- (plus Rs. 50/- portal charge) for general and OBC candidates. The application fees is excused for SC/ST candidates in Madhya Pradesh; just the portal charge of Rs. 50 is payable.
  • A candidate may apply to any programs. For each additional program, a separate form of Rs.300/- (plus Rs. 50/- portal charge) must be filed. SC/ST candidates from Madhya Pradesh can apply for any number of programs, with a portal fee of Rs. 50 per program.
  • Students with Grade/CGPA/SGPA marks should keep in mind that when filling out the online application form, their Grade/CGPA/SGPA will be converted to Marks/Percentage. If candidate does not fill out the online application form with marks or percentages, the form will be rejected.
  • The University will not accept any unpaid application forms; so, each applicant must ensure that candidate  has paid the online fees and received a receipt.
  • Following the interview, the shortlisted students must submit their marksheets, caste certificates, and other required documents for the admission procedure through e-mail account to the concerned department within 3 days, as instructed.

Scholarship for Students

  • The University offers a limited number of merit scholarships to Madhya Pradesh-resident students.
  • Concessions in tuition fees are given to a specific number of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds based on their academic achievement and behavior on campus, as well as to siblings registered in the University.
  • Scholarships are also awarded to students from scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward categories, and physically challenged individuals in accordance with Madhya Pradesh government regulations.
  • Students under the age of 25 can take advantage of railway concessions to travel to their hometown, educational excursions, and vacations scheduled in the academic calendar for both directions, and one way at the end of the last semester.

Facilities at University

Hostel:  University have separate hostels for both boys and girls located on either side of the university. The hostel rooms are very spacious and are well-equipped with the necessities like bed, table, chair, cupboard, etc. A secure, disciplined, ragging free environment is available in both the hostels including compulsory mess facility inside hostels. 

Library:     The library is equipped with e-books, online journals, magazines, periodicals and newspapers. 40 national and regional newspapers are regularly subscribed to and are kept in the library archive for media and communication studies for students. Apart from this, 100 subject-speci?c magazines as well as those useful for competitive exams are also made available. The library has a huge collection of research journals on Media and Communication, IT and Computers. It also has the membership of more than 60 research journals and a digital library facility is also available. 

Medical:    Dhanwantari Chikitsalaya is a health center that provides first aid and various treatment services, as well as specialist dentists who are ready for consultation at the specified time and length. With 8 beds, the health facility provides consultation and treatment (OPD and IPD) in allopathic, ayurvedic, and homeopathic medicine. This deal offers the University a reduction of about 60%- 70% on medical costs for personnel and medical students.

Sports:    The college offers a sports club, and students are welcome to join. They even have the opportunity to represent the university at the inter-college and even higher levels. The club has access to practically every type of sport and gaming. The University organizes inter-departmental sports tournaments every year at the yearly festival.

Gym:    A large gym with fitness equipment and services is offered on the university's campus. It features cardio machines, weightlifting equipment, fitness classes, and personal training. There are also additional services available, such as nutritional counseling, cardiovascular exercise, physical therapy, and wellness programs. The gym also has a sufficient supply of treadmills, ellipticals, spin bikes, FYD adjustable benches for chest workouts, multi gym machines, rods, dumbbells, and plates, among other items.

Other facilities include a canteen, a swimming pool, a bank, a guest house, studios, auditoriums, stadiums, recreation centers, essential shopping, and a weather station in conjunction with City University of New York and the US Consulate General in Mumbai.
