The Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (PSOU) was established in 2008 under the Punjab State Open University Act. The university is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), India. The PSOU offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses through distance education mode.

The admission process for all the courses offered by the university is completely online. Candidates can apply for admission to the desired course through the official website of the university. Admission to all the courses is done on the basis of merit. Merit is determined on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying examination by the candidates. Candidates who have scored minimum 50% marks in their qualifying examination are eligible to apply for admission to PSOU.

Admission to all programmes of study at JGNDPSOU is done on the basis of merit. Candidates are required to have passed the relevant qualifying examination from a recognized board or university. To be eligible for admission in Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, the candidate must have completed 10+2 from a recognized board or equivalent.
